This place is situated in the State of Rio de Janeiro, only 68 km from Rio de Janeiro, but it is up in the mountains where the climate is pleasant in summer. That is why the city was also the summer residence of the (two) Brazilian emperor. These two names were Peter I and Peter II Guess where the town takes its name ...
Today the town about 312 000 inhabitants and offers several other attractions in addition to the Imperial Palace.
As for us: this city has also Ihna already visited in 1993, first 2 nights we were in the family to do and then 2 nights at the hotel from there on trips to Rio. This time we are
3 nights at a guest family. Our presence will be in a theater. The day after that we may divide the group, the children explore the imperial city and the big drive to Rio. The next day we are equal in the early morning goodbye to our hosts and head for Rio. Then there is the usual program (Sugar Loaf and Corcovado) before heading to the airport and go home.
1993 we had a free afternoon in Petrópolis, the Imperial Palace was closed, so what then? Location: We drive to the orchid to Retiro with the public bus. Procedure: Only time will find the right bus, and the demand was difficult because here the "R" spoken as "CH", so we had to ask for a through bus to Cheticho. Also, we have achieved that, the real attraction, however, were not then the orchids, but the adventurous bus ride through the hairpin turns of the mountains to the Retiro and interesting way, where and how the bus conductor kept his money.
